The launching ceremony of the school's "10.10 Mental Health Week" series of activities with the theme of "Shining Hearts, Meeting You and Me"!
In the morning of October 10, all teachers and students of Yinchuan Xiaokongming School gathered in front of the school's comprehensive building plaza to chant slogans together, marking the opening ceremony of the school's "Shining Hearts, Meeting You and Me" mental health week series of activities, which will be held from that day to the 18th.
October 10th is World Mental Health Day, with the theme of this year being "Collaborative Construction, Governance, and Sharing for Mental Health and Well-being." According to the World Mental Health Report published by the World Health Organization, approximately 1 billion people worldwide suffer from mental disorders. Without mental health, physical health cannot be discussed. So, how should we treat mental illness when our minds are sick?
Currently, adolescents are facing unprecedented academic pressure, and mental health issues are increasingly prominent. The purpose of organizing World Mental Health Day activities is to raise global awareness of mental health and promote mental well-being.
Therefore, in his speech at the ceremony, Tian Jizhong, the president of Xiaokongming Mental Health Research Institute, emphasized that the joint holding of this event by Xiaokongming School and Xiaokongming Mental Health Research Institute aims to further strengthen the mental health education work for teachers and students throughout the school, in order to create a campus atmosphere where all teachers and students pay attention to mental health.
Speech by Tian Jizhong, Director of Xiaokongming Mental Health Research Institute
Excerpt from a partial speech
This year, the theme of World Mental Health Day is "Collaborative Construction, Governance, and Sharing for Mental Health and Well-being," aiming to further popularize knowledge about mental health and psychological well-being through various promotional activities and improve everyone's mental health literacy. Every student hopes to be healthy. But do you know? Health is not just about the physical aspect; it is also extremely important in the psychological aspect. Only with healthy psychology can one have a happy life and a successful career. It can be said that healthy psychology is the foundation for students' success. Do you feel it, students? When we are in a good mood, the sky seems particularly blue to us. When a bad mood comes, the sky feels gray, and everything looks unpleasant. This shows that mood has a lot to do with mental health. Currently, the mental health status of Chinese youth cannot be ignored. According to relevant data, in 2023, about 20%-30% of primary and middle school students in China had abnormal psychological issues, with 4% being severe, mainly manifesting as phobias, depression, loneliness, inferiority complex, disregarding life, poor interpersonal relationships, etc. Students, how do you deal with confusion in learning, difficulties in life, conflicts with classmates, and various unhappiness? These are all worth our serious attention. In this regard, the school attaches great importance to your mental health status and has opened mental health classes and established a school psychological counseling center. This year, relying on the existing mental health education classes and psychological counseling center, we have comprehensively carried out mental health education services to better help students embark on a vigorous and energetic journey in life. In today's society with intense competition, students are facing great pressure from studying and entering higher education. I hope that while facing these pressures and striving hard, students will always find a "mirror" for their inner selves, walk out of psychological misconceptions, improve their healthy personality, and pay attention to mental health. Only by doing so can they be full of vitality, become better versions of themselves, face and overcome challenges one by one, and surely achieve their beautiful wishes!
The Executive Director of the Mental Health Research Institute, Liu Ya, along with mental health teachers Du Lizhong, Ma Fengfeng, and Li Lingling, conducted face-to-face warm and comforting counseling for the students.
This Mental Health Week will feature 10 highly targeted and practical activities, including mental health lectures for teachers and students, aimed at guiding students to develop a healthy, optimistic, and positive attitude towards learning and life, and promoting their healthy growth!
